I am Lauren and welcome to my blog.

I am a health educator, natural lifestyle advocate, energy healer among other things. As a healer, I realized that I have to walk the talk and heal myself first. Here I will share my journey towards bringing a more natural and holistic experience into my life and that of my family. Natural remedies, spirituality, family life, culture, history, recipes and more will be discussed. I am in need of healing on so many levels and I’m sure you need some support as well. I will encourage you towards higher levels of self-care as you will me.

This world has taken a lot from many of us, and it is now our chance to correct it. My husband and I strive every day to overcome the obstacles that would try and make us statistics. We want better lives for ourselves and our child.

We all know that living a healthy and balanced life is important, but many times lack the tools in order to achieve it. We can be healthy inside and out.We can work to heal our past and present.

Time of transformation

This has been a real introspective couple of weeks for me. My daughter turned one, I completed a spiritual initiation, I had a dark night of the soul experience, I strengthened my connection with the ancestors, got back on my physical healing journey and recommitted myself to self-development.

My dear daughter turned one on the 3rd and I am so proud of her. She has reached all of her current developmental milestones and is now as busy as a bee! Time has flown so quickly. Its as if she were born 3 months ago. We have stayed committed to not vaccinating her, she is eating a whole food based vegan live-et, she is also becoming more discriminating and moody. She would be very social before but now its when she feels like it. She is understanding what many words mean now, especially no as well as other gestures and sounds.

For me, things have gotten way better as far as balancing everything. I don’t have a foolproof routine down because circumstances are always changing, but I change with it. Some words were said to me recently that I really reflected on. It was said to the effect that I don’t think clearly as I should (in other words) and for some reason it made me reflect on how many stupid decisions I have made in my life. I was crying non stop all night for hours….I reflected and realized that I was actually a stupid person. Noone wants to think of themselves as stupid. We say I could have done better or will do better, but it’s another thing to say I have been stupid the majority of my life. I have lived in lalaland. I have been in the clouds and too idealistic rather than realistic and that has held me back. I have since resolved myself to work harder at everything that I do, just to make average gains. Just to reach where everyone (the admirable ones) are at basically (career-wise, socially, familially, financially) I have to push myself harder. I can’t get into my mode of comfort and become lackadaisical. I have to make myself successful, if only in my own eyes.

 

 

 

 

Reset yourself daily

What do you run to first when you notice that you are coming down with a yucky bodily imbalance…AKA…sick?? You can be sick not only just physically but spiritually, psychologically etc. These can be adapted to heal and strengthen you daily.

Here are my go to’s for when I’m not my greatest:

Extra sleep – whether it’s a cat nap during the day or cutting out extra things “to do” so I can get to bed earlier.

Taking herbs – there are a plethora of herbs out there that can assist your body in healing itself.  I usually make an infusion of herbs in a large jar and sip on it throughout the day. Echinacea, ginger, dandelion, red raspberry, chamomile, and elderberry are some that I like to have on hand.

Meditation- I tend to do 10-minute increment meditations (I’m getting better with sitting) but even that positively affects the rest of my day and I feel more peaceful and together. I focus on the rising and falling of my stomach in the dantien/hara region (midway between the belly button and pubic region), I also repeat hesi (chants)/mantras throughout the day as a form of meditation/refocusing.

Ritual- The hours between 4 and 6 am are very sacred. During this time the veil between this world and that of the spirit is very thin. Your brain also hasn’t been bogged down with the days’ stresses and worries. This is the perfect time for rituals such as the Opening of the Way- a Kemetic ritual started by Baba Hru Ankh Ra Semahj Se Ptah- the chief priest and elder of the Shrine of Ptah. The Opening of the Way honors the four directions and main bodily organs and Forces of Nature/Neter.

Prayer- Hekau or words of power/affirmations are very important in my tradition. Rather than begging for the Divine to do something, we command them to work on our behalf (in a positive and empowering manner). I also use hekau throughout my day as mantras to empower and remind myself of my Divinity.

Self-Care- Take care of your body.  Set some time aside to nourish your body. I like to use a nourishing face scrub, a facial massage or steam, a body scrub weekly. You should tend to your hair daily, even if it’s in a protective style. You can even lightly spritz it with a light moisturizing conditioner daily, it doesn’t have to be much.

Spiritually cleanse your body/your home- Sweep/Mop/clean your home with herbs/oils/vinegar to raise the vibration. Open a window or two and burn sage or palo santo/or any other incense throughout your home. Cleanse your body with a spiritual bath or herbs/oils with cleansing/empowering properties. Repeat affirmations/ words of power while you do this.

Journal/Talk- Writing and/or talking helps to remove frustrations from yourself. Keep your heart light. Talk it out with a loved one, forgive them, forgive yourself, move on. You can do a mini ritual y writing on a piece of paper what you want to get off of your chest or something you will like to manifest. Fold the paper towards you if its something you want; fold it away from you if its something you want to release. Then burn the paper in a bowl/cauldron or other heat safe container.

These are practices I use to get my head right and reconnect. I hope they can be helpful to you as well.

 

 

 

 

 

Deciding to heal

There comes a point in time when we know that the time has come for healing. We may procrastinate, weigh the pros and cons, come up with excuses, but the fact remains that we need to begin our journey. We have to work on ourselves in order to be a complete and actualized being. However, if we are overwhelmed with complaints we become distracted from becoming our best selves.

No matter how beautiful the outside, true beauty comes from within and we have to heal from within in order to be whole. We decide the time is right for healing sometimes by being backed against the wall with a frightening diagnosis, a strained relationship or just being sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Whatever it is that brought you to the path of healing is valid and there is no better time to start your journey than right now. Right now at this moment, you don’t need a bunch of herbal products, prescriptions or self-help books. Right now all you need is yourself and the conscious decision of “I want to be well”. Well, guess what? Deliverance from the shame, pain, and suffering is your right and together we can do it! Sickness and ailments don’t run us, we run them… Away! The years of embarrassment, feeling disempowered, feeling like damaged goods are over.
